once upon a time....

The Fairytale Meme

How it works:
1. pick a fairy tale
2. au our characters into it somehow, along the guidelines or not.
3. ???
4. profit. c:

1. ALADDIN The classic rags to riches story. One's royalty, and one's not, and they'll do anything to win the heart of their beloved--or at least besotted--even if it means pretend to be rich.
2. SLEEPING BEAUTY A character has been cursed, doomed to sleep forever. Only true love's kiss can wake them up.
3. ALICE IN WONDERLAND Things have gotten curioser and curioser, as a character's transported deep into a magic land where things aren't quite what they seem. A magical court, a reigning queen, talking animals--whatever you have it, you think you probably need to get out of this place and back home. But will your partner help you or harm you?
4. THE LITTLE MERMAID You're a mermaid, for whichever reason. Falling in love with people who have legs is such a chore, but sometimes love requires sacrifice.
5. CINDERELLA. You've been searching for your true love for years, in hopes to rediscover them after a magical night. Will you thread the night itself, or perhaps the reunion--or anything in between?
6. SNOW WHITE Living in the forest is not so bad when you make friends. You hope someday your prince will come. Preferrably before someone realizes you're the fairest of them all and tries to kill you. At least that true love's kiss comes in handy!
7. THE FROG PRINCE Someone was once a handsome prince(ss) and they've been turned into an animal. True love's kiss, again, conquers all, so you better get to hopping. (Or leaping, or slithering...)
8. RAPUNZEL Rapunzellll! Let down your haiiiir! Being cooped up in a castle for all of your life has given you quite the sense of adventure, so why not let the person knocking on your door in? It must be safe, right? Right?
9. LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD Grandmother warned you not to go walking in those spooky old woods alone, but you did it anyway. With a wolf on your heels, you better start hoping the wolf is kinder than you think--or if not, that you'll run into a kind huntsman to help save the day. Or, even if not that, you'll rely on your powers of badassery to beat the wolf yourself!
10. GOLDILOCKS & THE THREE BEARS Someone's sleeping in your bed! Kick them out, let them stay. I'm not judging.c
11. TARZAN Someone isn't what you'd maybe call a functioning human being. But that's alright--being raised by monkeys (or wolves, or what have you) isn't a reason not to try and understand them. In fact, maybe you're intrigued by the way they look at life. They could certainly teach you as much as you taught them.
12. PINOCCHIO You're a real boy! Whether you were a puppet or a robot, something--and who only knows what--has turned you into a human. Maybe it was just the love of your creator. Maybe it was a little fairy. Who knows.
13. OTHER. Seriously, knock yourself out.

Feel free to ignore the prompts completely and just use the name of the fairy tale--twisted fairytales, once upon a time style fairy tales...everything is fair game. Just don't eat the poison apple!

So worth it.

[ The Reeds had been loyal to the Starks for centuries, generations of Jojen's forefathers swearing fealty to the family by their old oaths. And they'd come to the Stark's aid when their keep had fallen, helping to whisk away those that were alive to safety. But they'd never known the fate of their second son, Bran Stark, and it'd been so long since anyone had seen the prince of Winterfell that they'd very nearly given up.

But Jojen knew better, even if he was doing something incredibly dangerous now. Theon Greyjoy could return at any moment, but it's a risk he's willing to take-- and he isn't at any risk of danger right now, anyways. His dreams would not lead him astray.

As he hears the growling on the other side of the door, he can't help the faint smile that tugs at the corners of his mouth. That would be the wolf he'd seen, and he hardly bats an eye as he reaches out, pushing the door open carefully so as not to startle the giant wolf. He keeps one hand flat against the door as he stands in the doorway, leaving himself open and neutral, presenting himself completely so the wolf knows that he isn't a threat.
]

Hello, Bran-- and Summer, as well. [ That's when he holds his free hand out, unafraid of the wolf and his eyes on the boy in the chair. So he is here, and he needs to be whisked away the same that his parents and siblings had been. ] Don't worry, the ironborn isn't here.

[ summer growls again, a low sound deep in the back of his throat, but it stops when the door opens. the person standing there is tall and skinny and nothing at all like the person who'd captured him, and bran stares with wide eyes behind his wolf, hands curled into the armrests of the chair he was seated in, words forgotten.

summer stays still for a moment, and the tension in the air is so thick you could cut it with a knife, but then, the massive direwolf lopes forward to sniff his hand. bran's ready for summer to bite the mysterious intruder's hand straight off--he's terrified, if not a little curious, certainly uneasy. no one has ever found his tower before, especially not someone as...well, to be honest, unthreatening looking as this stranger.

but, summer shocks him. the wolf sniffs his hand, then huffs and turns back around, curling up at bran's feet. bran looks down at him, breaking his and the stranger's eye contact for the first time since he walked in, before he looks back at up at him again, mouth slightly open and just--confused.

slowly, he shuts his mouth again. ]
Who are you?

[ There's no fear in Jojen's face as he looks at the wolf, which must weigh more than him as he comes up to his chest and is made of sheer muscle. But he knows that Summer won't bite him, won't attack him, because he offers no threat. The wolf is smart, smart enough to know that he's here to help rather than to harm. And so, he just quirks a smile as Summer returns to Bran's side.

He takes it as permission to come inside, and his eyes wander around the room. It's no place for Bran to be trapped in solitude, though at least he can look out at the world through his window. (Perhaps that's more of a punishment, however. A caged bird yearning for freedom.)
]

Jojen Reed. And I've come to help you. [ For someone so unthreatening, he speaks easily about this, as if he plans to whisk him away out of this tower and far away from those that trapped him here.

But, well. He does. He has every intention of getting Bran back to his family, and as far from here as possible. When the Starks can take back their home, then he knows for certain that the Reeds will be there to help them do it. Once they know that one of their youngest is still alive, that is.
