[Things weren't too great ever since their father, the Woodcutter, remarried. His new wife detested the Woodcutter's son and daughter. Not just because they were both---as she put it, "freaks of nature", but there was also the fact they did not have much in terms in food and wealth. They're just two more mouths to feed. And so, the pair's Stepmother convinced the Woodcutter to lead and abandon them in the woods. Such was the story of Hansel and Gretel.
Or rather, Mika and Suzu, lost in the woods, unable to find their way back thanks to forest birds pecking away their route---a trail of crumbs from a loaf of bread Suzu stole on their way out. And Suzu is quite close to losing her patience.]
We should've just ran off to town or somethin' when we tried the pebbles last time. I was dumb to think that hag would have the guts to toss us out again...
