RULES.

PROMPTS.

1. quidditch. the wizarding world's sport of choice! teach someone to play, hit someone you hate in the face with a bludger, win a game; whatever it is, it involves a broomstick.

2. cast a spell. it's leviohhhsa, not leviohsahhhh. spellcasting can involve a lot of things; practicing with a classmate, dueling, or sneaking around the castle. these are open prompts that's the whole point.

3. exploring the castle. hogwarts has a lot of mysteries. there's a room that's whatever you need it to be. an entire maze full of puzzles that once held a great and powerful stone. haunted bathrooms. oh, and did we mention the forest? there are so many things a delinquent could get into!

4. diagon alley. but before you can even go to hogwarts, you've gotta be outfitted. walk this famous street and hit up some of the shops; get fitted for robes, pick out a pet, ogle over the broomsticks, or even get your very first want from ollivander's finest.

5. hogsmeade. everyone gets to get away every once in a while; hogsmeade's famous for places like weasley's wizard wheezes for your practical jokester, the three broomsticks for their flawless butterbeer, or maybe out to stare at that mysterious shack around the way... just make sure you get your guardian slip signed!

6. magical creatures. there are so many different magical creatures in the harry potter universe, it's hard to cover them all; be they bowtruckles or hippogriffs, werewolves (you should hope not) or the rare phoenix, you're getting to interact with one. just be careful which ones bite. this is an all encompassing category--if you want to include dementors, go for it.

7. potions. felix felicitis. truth potion. love potion. come on guys this is like the most cliche of all cliches and it actually flies in this universe. go for it.

8. whatever i forgot. seriously, knock yourselves out. IT'S HARRY POTTER TIME, GUYS.

[Jim doesn't even remember anymore how he and Hiccup became friends; it's one of those friendships that feels like they always knew each other. and they certainly made up for not being in the same House by spending as much time as possible together, dissecting charms and magic theory in their own inquisitive way and then trying to come up with their own, improved versions (if not new spells altogether). they're notorious for being night inseparable, and being almost too good at magic with odd uses and applications - if the wizarding world didn't already have an equivalent term for "mad scientist", it would soon exist in no small part due to this duo.

sure, Jim could've been captain of the Gryffindor team. that is, if he made any effort to have his grades match his brains. but he hasn't, not for five years of his illustrious Hogwarts career - why focus on homework when this school offers so much education outside of the classroom?

so why, then, is he suddenly worried about the OWLs. he's actually been studying. Quidditch, his favorite way to put off academics, feels like studying time wasted. even now, sitting on the bleachers next to his best friend waiting for Chaser-specific practice, his expression is frustrated and distant and his foot taps against the ground impatiently at an alarming speed; hands, laced in his lap and fingers gripping each other tightly.

In the cold of winter, she nearly loses her baggy knit cap to the wind. Vivian is quick to chase it, grinning to herself as she hurries through the snow, brushing past curious onlookers in a flash of blonde hair. She's faster than a normal human and hardly pants when she reaches the Shrieking Shack.

Plucking her maroon hat off a broken pole, she hoists herself onto the fence, hanging on by the heels of her boots, dangling over the old wood. ]

[ They've been sporadic Herbology partners for six years now, and so starts the seventh. That partnership eventually became invitations to study groups, though Uryuu never needed nor, initially, particularly wanted the help and company. From studying to chess matches, to a few outings in Hogsmeade, to, well, a friendship.

They exchanged letters over the summer. Uryuu chose to remain at school, of course; he and Ryuuken much preferred it that way.

He's not sure when, precisely, friendship became something else. Possibly before one snowy weekend in Hogsmeade when, just outside The Three Broomsticks, both warm with butterbeer, Doumeki leaned over and kissed him. Whenever he looks back, Uryuu remembers the snowflakes melting in Doumeki's eyebrows, and chooses not to remember the expression he must have had after.

He knows Doumeki's little smile was intolerably annoying, however.

So starts their Seventh Year. The train's arriving soon; Uryuu waits at school, fussing with his Head Boy badge. ]
