(mei has to admit to himself that maybe he's not actually that brainless, that he's been outsmarted up to this point, but he's refusing to let himself be impressed with a dumb human.)
he's still pouting enough that he rolls over on his back and floats near where masa's been walking, far enough out that he doesn't have to flop on the shore. he folds his arms behind his head and looks up at the sky above, rolling his head back towards masa to make sure he's still looking at him. as he should be. ] You can't survive here forever. How are you going to eat? I can out-wait you--my food shows up at least once a week.
[ mei's childish, bratty, stubborn, and he even sticks his tongue out. he absolutely will wait here forever. don't try him. ]

Of course Harada's still looking when Mei looks back over. The siren's taken back to the water which is really better for everybody, but he also looks much more natural there. Harada can appreciate that, even if he's also just plain old keeping an eye on Mei. Who knows when he might try for a swimming leap or some other nonsense?]
I can eat the fruit in the trees further up the shore, and when you leave to go wreck another ship, I can fish as much as I want. If you want to keep eating, you're gonna have to leave me alone at some point. ... Real mature.
[Because what else do you say to a siren who is sticking his tongue out at you? How did Harada get stuck with this guy? Where are the bare breasted lady sirens, huh?]

mei just sticks his tongue out with more emphasis, adding an "mmm!" noise before he rolls his eyes and rolls back over to float on his stomach to watch him better. ] Considering I just ate half your crew, I'm not hungry.
[ ah, there's the gloating again. a little gleefully. ] Besides, you're so big, you'd fill me up for weeks! [ and he laughs, amused at his own not funny joke. ]

That means you're full which means you're slow. Thanks for letting me know.
[Harada looks down at himself then over at Mei... then again, for emphasis.]
So what you're saying is I'm bigger than you? Are you so sure you could overpower me? Probably better to let me weaken a little on a diet of just fruit and rainwater.

I'm not slow! I'm one of the fastest sirens in the whole ocean! [ predictable. he rolls his head in an approximation of an eyeroll, jerking up into more of a vertical position and folding both of his arms across his chest. it's a very human gesture for a creature who isn't at all human. ]
Of course I could overpower you. You're still alive because I want you to be. Otherwise, I would have been picking my teeth with your spine days ago. [ huffily ] You read through my plan, which is pretty impressive, for a human.
[ mei that was not your plan??? you liar??? ]

Because he is getting off this island.]
If you're that fast, prove it. Show me how long it takes you to swim around the entire island. I'll time you.
[For all that he hasn't known this siren very long, Harada will be surprised if it falls for this, but it's worth a shot.]
You can't overpower me if I stay on land. It really sounds like you didn't think this through. What if I crawl up onto the center of the island to die? Then you're not getting anything out of this.
[He won't, because he wants to stay by the shore so he can know if the siren leaves and he'll have a chance to fish, but that seems like a gaping hole in this plan.]
i love that icon so much he looks so tired
And if you go up there and die, you're still dead. I could get up there if I wanted to. [ his tone stays petulant: ok, mei. fat chance, really, but whatever. ] You're stuck with me, so you better get used to it. Even if you walk up the island to eat, I'll still find you!
[ mostly, mei is just so hardheaded that he refuses to give up on this. in reality, the sailor is right: this is stupid, and mei should almost definitely just leave him alone in search of greener pastures, but he refuses to lose now.
he decides to change tactics again--his voice drops a little, sultrier than before, and he drops his folded arms, holding them out across the water. ] Besides, if I sing to you, all you'll want to do is come here. The water's so nice, you know. I'd love to enjoy it with you...~
asdfpanf I THOUGHT I TAGGED THIS ONE TOO OH GOD
If you can get up here any time you want to then why haven't you? I'm right here. [ He turns to face the siren, hands at his sides with his palms upturned. He is so not fooled.
That does mean, however, that he's giving the siren his full attention when he starts to sing again. Distracting himself was how he was protecting himself before, but the siren managed to irritate and goad him into dropping that. A part of Harada knows that, but another part sees how the setting sun makes the siren's tail all gold and rose, how smooth his skin looks... that might be nice to touch... ]
it was an extra surprise! <3 - me, a month later
he hums, holding the slightly high pitched note as he revels in his victory (at least he thinks.) his arms spread a little wider over the ocean, long, pianist fingers beckoning the sailor in, as if he can have him come to his arms. were he a little wiser, he might come closer, but the draw for mei is making his prey come to him. ]
You are right there. It's so far away. [ his tail swishes through the water, the golden light catching off of his scales and leaving flickering spots of white in his blonde hair, off the drippy gold jewelry around his neck, over his ears.
got him, he thinks, and keeps that sultry tone as he talks, singsong and smooth. ] I want you to come to me. Please? You must be lonely.
