but the best story that i have ever told

The Fairytale Meme
How it works:
1. pick a fairy tale
2. au our characters into it somehow, along the guidelines or not.
3. ignore the fact i shamelessly reposted this meme from three years ago
4. have good threads!

1. ALADDIN The classic rags to riches story. One's royalty, and one's not, and they'll do anything to win the heart of their beloved--or at least besotted--even if it means pretend to be rich.
2. SLEEPING BEAUTY A character has been cursed, doomed to sleep forever. Only true love's kiss can wake them up.
3. ALICE IN WONDERLAND Things have gotten curioser and curioser, as a character's transported deep into a magic land where things aren't quite what they seem. A magical court, a reigning queen, talking animals--whatever you have it, you think you probably need to get out of this place and back home. But will your partner help you or harm you?
4. THE LITTLE MERMAID You're a mermaid, for whichever reason. Falling in love with people who have legs is such a chore, but sometimes love requires sacrifice.
5. CINDERELLA. You've been searching for your true love for years, in hopes to rediscover them after a magical night. Will you thread the night itself, or perhaps the reunion--or anything in between?
6. SNOW WHITE Living in the forest is not so bad when you make friends. You hope someday your prince will come. Preferrably before someone realizes you're the fairest of them all and tries to kill you. At least that true love's kiss comes in handy!
7. THE FROG PRINCE Someone was once a handsome prince(ss) and they've been turned into an animal. True love's kiss, again, conquers all, so you better get to hopping. (Or leaping, or slithering...)
8. RAPUNZEL Rapunzellll! Let down your haiiiir! Being cooped up in a castle for all of your life has given you quite the sense of adventure, so why not let the person knocking on your door in? It must be safe, right? Right?
9. LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD Grandmother warned you not to go walking in those spooky old woods alone, but you did it anyway. With a wolf on your heels, you better start hoping the wolf is kinder than you think--or if not, that you'll run into a kind huntsman to help save the day. Or, even if not that, you'll rely on your powers of badassery to beat the wolf yourself!
10. GOLDILOCKS & THE THREE BEARS Someone's sleeping in your bed! Kick them out, let them stay. I'm not judging.c
11. TARZAN Someone isn't what you'd maybe call a functioning human being. But that's alright--being raised by monkeys (or wolves, or what have you) isn't a reason not to try and understand them. In fact, maybe you're intrigued by the way they look at life. They could certainly teach you as much as you taught them.
12. PINOCCHIO You're a real boy! Whether you were a puppet or a robot, something--and who only knows what--has turned you into a human. Maybe it was just the love of your creator. Maybe it was a little fairy. Who knows.
13. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Hope you like your prince/sses furry.
14. OTHER. Seriously, knock yourself out.

Feel free to ignore the prompts completely and just use the name of the fairy tale--twisted fairytales, once upon a time style fairy tales...everything is fair game. also half of you are monsterfuckers so i expect this to get nsfw

[ It's cold and salty and wet and he hates it and his clothes are ruined and it's so wet.

But Shu isn't actually worried about that, because Shu is drowning. In fact, Shu is pretty sure he's dying. His lungs are burning and his vision is fading, the already dark waters seeming to close in on him even faster than they already are. His head hurts and his limbs aren't moving the way he wants them to, and the added weight of his soaked clothing is only making things worse.

He can't see, he can't breathe, he can't think - and then suddenly he can.

Or rather, he can squint blearily with stinging eyes while he coughs up a lungful of water and drags in ragged gasps while his mind tumbles around trying to figure out what just happened. Those are like seeing, breathing, and thinking, right? He's still not going anywhere anytime soon, but he's in slightly better shape than he was a few minutes ago. Better enough that he can finally lift his head and cast a dazed look around.

He's.... on a rock, somehow? What just happened...?

[ nazuna nito maybe has a soft heart. he's always been a caring kind of guy, looking after the other merfolk in the kingdom, helping them grow, because that's his job, as the son of the king of their section of the sea. he'll live here forever, content with this normalcy, a life that never changes or moves.

...right?

his kind has always been warned to stay away from humans. they're dangerous--they'll put their heads on a platter, turn their tails to dinner--and nazuna isn't the type to engage with danger so boldly or plainly. he'll keep his head down.

of course, when a human falls into the sea literally right in front of him, there's not much he can do. nazuna has two options with the pink haired man that's suddenly floating right in front of him, dropping down to the bottom of the ocean: he can leave him to drown (as he should) or--

(the man looks different, his features fine-boned and curious, nothing like the merfolk nazuna's seen.)

--that soft heart will take him in, and nazuna's looping his arms underneath the human's and swimming straight for shore. the human, of course, is at least six inches taller than nazuna and a lot heavier than he looks, so there's a moment of struggle, but the minute he gets into the current, nazuna pushes forward and suddenly they're both up, at the rocky outcropping closest to his home. it takes all of his strength to push the human up onto the rock, and that soft heart gets him up there too, planting either of his hands on either side of the human's head, trying to look him over. he hasn't moved since they got up here--is he dead? how can you tell if a human is dead, anyway? nazuna's only ever seen them drowned already, and this one...

he tilts his head to the side to look at him and pauses, examining his ears. they're...kind of weird. no points? it's in that moment that shu chooses to awaken, and the mermaid squawks out an "unyan!" when he lifts his head and scrambles backwards, his tail now half hanging over the edge of the rock, staring wide eyed at the human with his heartbeat going a hundred miles in his ribcage.

oh, no. now what. ]

[ He's beautiful.

The realization hits Shu like a tidal wave, chasing every other thought out of his mind. Maybe it's the relief of being alive, or maybe it's the oxygen deprivation, or maybe it's just the truth, or maybe (and most likely) it's all three.

Whatever the cause, Shu knows something with absolute certainty: Nazuna is the most stunning creature he's ever laid eyes on.
]

You're--

[ And then he's overtaken by another fit of coughing. Shu drops his head and hunches his shoulders as he struggles to breathe, but even then he reaches out blindly, trying to grab hold of Nazuna's wrist. It's absolutely imperative that he not leave. ]
